In the world of organic farming, there is no one quite like Mirosław Angielczyk. Raised in one of the poorest regions of Podlasian Poland in the 1960s and 1970s, Mirosław grew up in a family where collecting herbs was one of the few ways to support the family, in a place where doctor’s appointments were not so easy to arrange. As a child, he always dreamed of becoming a naturalist, but his family sent him to study in Warsaw, thinking he should pursue a more lucrative career. One day, while working as a window washer in the late 1980s, he saw a man working in an office constantly checking the time. He realized he wanted to pursue a career rooted in his passion for nature, so he started visiting herb shops in Warsaw, asking if they needed any herbs. When he returned to Podlasie to visit his family, he collected herbs and brought them to sell in Warsaw. This was the beginning of what is now the largest organic herbal business in Poland, Dary Natury. At first, the locals couldn’t believe that Mirosław wanted to stay in the region and develop this business. But as the business grew, Mirosław employed many more people in the local community and purchased more land, creating new organic niche products, including teas, juices and cosmetics, in addition to becoming a major producer of raw herbs used throughout Europe. He currently has over 350 employees and, perhaps even more impressively, he has amassed the largest private collection of herbs in all of Europe, which form the basis of his private botanical garden and agritourism “Ziołowy Zakątek”, which welcomes over 100,000 guests annually. This is a truly unique place that cannot be missed by anyone with a passion for ecology. In this film, Mirosław describes his humble beginnings, his passion for ecology and presents his company’s extensive production facilities. Part two will be devoted to his botanical garden, fields and laboratory.
