The EU-DARE project aims to develop a highly relevant suite of education resources that address the needs of smallholders in European rural areas, specifically:

1. Explaining what agroecology is and what role it plays in combating climate change, increasing resilience, increasing land productivity;
2. Illustrate the value of using smallholder farmers as a container for improvements in agricultural performance and as a particular means of enabling a new, more appropriate sustainable process;
3. Motivate the objectives with practical guidance on how to introduce ‘Sustainable and regenerative farming systems’ education into their organisations.

Another objective that EU-DARE wants to achieve is to increase the level of lifelong learning among farmers.

The EU Dare consortium is CURRENTLY developing this suite of OERs (Open Education Resources). These OERs are a new, free and open access training model that curates different areas of knowledge and skills development in the very specific area of Agroecology and Designing & Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems for smallholder/farmer learners. Our INNOVATIVE focus on 3 Macro areas:

1. Introduction to Agroecology,
2. The Link between Agroecology and the Community and
3. Practical Agroecological systems

Provides smallholder or rural farmer learners with the tools and knowledge they need to improve their approaches or practices to agriculture – ultimately improving the viability and sustainability of their smallholdings and becoming aligned with EU strategies (Farm to Fork and The 20230 Biodiversity Strategy).

Designed by consulting smallholders and agricultural sector specialists, and based on the very latest approaches, the Open Education Resources give trainers and learners new content to upskill both their agroecology knowledge and sustainability skills. Equipped with this up-to-date knowledge, smallholders will be able to use the practical tools provided to enhance their practices so that they become more aligned with the SDGs and EU goals while simultaneously empower them to become more involved in improved and more ethical food systems.

The OERs will consist of:

• A Curriculum with learning objectives and learning outcomes
• A course made up of 8 up-to-date Modules covering the 3 Macro areas mentioned above.
• A VET Guide to equip educators with a complete toolkit, tailored for the fast-paced transformation of the EU food system.

• A Podcast Library – to allow for micro-learning suitable to our Target Group
• A Video Library – including our course in video format to enable learning on the go
• An Interactive Map – Highlighting relevant Associations and Support organisations available to learners/users
